The word “diesel” doesn’t exactly remind us of something flashy but instead of something built for strength and longevity. This is our rendition of the basic plain toe boot pattern—made with nothing but proven leather uppers, lining, and insole.
Chromexcel leather tanned by Horween in Chicago is incredibly resilient while offering unparalleled character. The hot-stuffed tannage's natural oils and waxes create an unmistakable pull-up effect and supple feel.
Creasing and color variation are to be expected on these natural, aniline leathers. Each pair will develop differently as each hide is unique.
This boot comes equipped with our Lug Rubber Sole, which is built to handle all seasons. The rubber compound features a medium density and combines traction and durability.

The Leo last runs a half-size large. Customers typically order a half-size down from their average shoe size.

Renowned for its durability and ability to be resoled repeatedly, Goodyear-welt construction involves stitching a welt—a strip of leather—around the shoe's perimeter, creating a cavity. After filling the cavity with the shank and cork, the sole is attached, providing strength and water resistance. This construction method results in shoes that are not only long-lasting but also easily repairable, making them a timeless investment in quality craftsmanship.
Derived from our experience fitting and developing various orthopedic-shaped lasts designed for specific foot shapes, the Leo features a moderate arch, heel control, medial support, and forefront freedom. It embodies a traditional welted shoe shape while prioritizing all-day support and comfort.

"Dear Grand Stone team, I purchased a pair of Grand Stone Diesel Boots, which were delivered on 22 June. Since then, I have worn them for no more than three days in total, partly because I was away on holiday for seven weeks. Unfortunately, the laces are already damaged after just these few days of normal use. I find this quite disappointing, especially considering the price and quality I expected from shoes at this level. I also hope this is not an indication that other parts of the shoes will start showing premature wear. I would appreciate it if you could send me a replacement set of laces. I can hardly imagine I am the only customer who has experienced this issue after such limited use. "It's already been a month since I received my Diesel's in Dark Olive. They're just gorgeous, with those shades of green in the Brown Chromexel, just like a ripening olive. I love that these boots are elegant and dressy, but also sturdy, with the heavy lug outsole. They are comfortable out of the box, and just become more comfortable with use. These boots are heavy. I haven't tried them on the trail yet, but they are great for strolling on rough, dusty streets."
"I’ve owned a lot of quality boots over the years, and this Diesel in Olive Chromexcel ranks among my favorites. Horween’s Chromexcel is one of the finest leathers available, and while every color has its appeal, the Olive is exceptional. It carries subtle brown undertones that make it far more versatile than you might expect. Whether paired with selvedge denim, regular jeans, or khakis, these boots simply work. As expected from Grant Stone, the craftsmanship is outstanding. The stitching is perfectly executed, the clicking is excellent, and the overall fit and finish are second to none. I couldn’t find a single flaw—not a thread out of place. The mini-lug sole is another feature I really appreciate. It provides confident traction in all four seasons while maintaining the clean, refined profile that makes the Diesel such a classic boot. If you’re considering this leather but wondering whether olive is too bold, don’t hesitate. It’s surprisingly versatile and has quickly become one of the easiest boots in my collection to wear. Beautiful leather, exceptional craftsmanship, outstanding value, and timeless style. This one is an absolute keeper and earns a well-deserved five stars."
"My foray into boots prior to this pair was Jim Greens exclusively. I had thought dressy/classier boots such as these were just not in the cards for a guy with EEE width feet. Not so. Getting these boots was an eye opener. They fit better than any boot I have ever owned, and the quality is just superb in every facet. Even with the EEE width they still look sleek, and I have a hard time not wearing them all the time. If I had any gripes it would be that they also size up the quarters alot on their wider sizes, so the I was swimming in the exfess volume, my quarters were touching when laced. However, a Nick's Delta Arch and a Jim Green kiltie solved this no problem. All in all, these boots were an epiphany. And while I'll always love and cherish my Jim Greens, with these Diesels I feel like I've graduates from boot high school into boot college!"

"My second pair of GS boots and I am absolutely pleased with them. The dark olive CXL is absolutely gorgeous, photos don’t do it justice. Materials, construction, fit and finish, packaging…. Top tier in every regard. Very comfortable right out of the box, break in is completely painless. Not my first pair of GS, and certainly not my last."
