The word “diesel” doesn’t exactly remind us of something flashy but instead of something built for strength and longevity. This is our rendition of the basic plain toe boot pattern—made with nothing but proven leather uppers, lining, and insole.

Chromexcel leather tanned by Horween in Chicago is incredibly resilient while offering unparalleled character. The hot-stuffed tannage's natural oils and waxes create an unmistakable pull-up effect and supple feel. Creasing and color variation are to be expected on these natural, aniline leathers. Each pair will develop differently as each hide is unique.

This boot comes equipped with our new Micro Stud Rubber Sole, which is built to handle all seasons. The rubber compound features a medium density and combines traction and durability.

  • Goodyear-welt construction
  • Leo last
  • Chromexcel from Horween
  • Full-grain kip leather lining
  • 360º split-reverse welt
  • Antique brass eyelets and speed hooks
  • Vegetable-tanned leather insole, welt, and midsole
  • Cork filler with steel shank
  • Full-grain leather heel counters
  • Micro stud rubber outsole

Every pair crafted in our factory on Xiamen Island, China

The Leo last runs a half-size large. Customers typically order a half-size down from their average shoe size.

Diesel Boot Dune Chromexcel

$435.00

Made with

Goodyear-welt Construction

Renowned for its durability and ability to be resoled repeatedly, Goodyear-welt construction involves stitching a welt—a strip of leather—around the shoe's perimeter, creating a cavity. After filling the cavity with the shank and cork, the sole is attached, providing strength and water resistance. This construction method results in shoes that are not only long-lasting but also easily repairable, making them a timeless investment in quality craftsmanship.

Our Leo Last

Derived from our experience fitting and developing various orthopedic-shaped lasts designed for specific foot shapes, the Leo features a moderate arch, heel control, medial support, and forefront freedom. It embodies a traditional welted shoe shape while prioritizing all-day support and comfort.

Our mission

Providing Excellent Service

Our priority has been putting customers in shoes that properly fit them and standing by our amazing products. Many customers have found they have been wearing an incorrect size for years. This has been lost in the market today. We offer the majority of our footwear in D, E, and EEE widths to provide well-fitting footwear.

We encourage customers to ask our team for assistance to ensure the best fit.

The Perfect One And Done Boot!

"The Diesels are the best boots I own!! The leather is perfect, no loose grain and its a thick leather, but its soft and breaks in within the first two days of wear. Im amazed how well these are finished and how comfortable they are right out of the box considering theyre all leather construction. The leather laces are soft and durable, the insoles are thick leather and after two weeks of wearing these, theyre starting to form to my foot. The leather upper has already formed around my foot to be my most comfortable boot. These are so good I bought another pair of diesels in crimson chromexel."

Super boot!

"This is great boot. Dresses up or down and super comfortable."

Todd S. (5/5)

Wonderful boots

"Gorgeous boot, well made and fit is terrific. Sizing is half size down as GS advised. For anyone who wears Alden boots last on diesel is something between the trubulance and Barrie lasts. Wonderful boot and liked it so much I bought a pair of the brass boots already."

Awesome Boots for Every Occasion

"Took a few tries to get the right size and boots without flaws, but these boots are really great. The GS team was so helpful throughout the whole process too! Can't wait to see how these age."

All Around Fantastic Boots

"These boots are outstanding. My second pair of Grant Stones, first being the Brass boot. The quality and craftsmanship is so evident in all Grant Stone boots. I like the Diesel in Dune for it's versatility. You could dress this boot up or down easily and basically wear it for all but super formal occasions. I imagine this boot will last for decades. Won't be my last GS purchase."

Nicholas P. (5/5)

Amazing value! Looks incredible too

"These boots have you cursing at how cool they look when you take them out of the box. I have several pairs of Grant Stones and in my opinion there really is no need to look elsewhere for service boots, especially at the price point. All my pairs have never disappointed and I know I’ll have them for a very long time because of the quality."

Anchor Piece to Wardrobe

"Very happy with the quality and fit of these. Been a while since I owned a pair of boots, and these were the first piece of anything I bought for a wardrobe reset. I’m in my 40’s, an office professional, and I have cranky feet. In recent years I had migrated toward shoes that were more dressed up sneakers than anything else. But my wardrobe was feeling a bit out of touch with who I was and what I wanted to put out into the world, and I’m so tired of disposable . . . Everything. So for the first time in my life I actually spent some time figuring out what my style was, what I liked, and with some help from YouTube, Google, my wife and AI (seriously) I figured it out. These were literally the first anchor piece I bought for that reset. They look great with jeans or wool slacks, in the office or on a ballfield watching my kids play after work. They are impeccably made, and putting them on each day just feels good. Like I’ve invested in something that’s going to be part of my life for a while. And probably as important as all this feel good self-reflection, they don’t hurt my big toe knuckles, which light up with pain the second there is any pressure on them and is a dealbreaker on a lot of shoes for me. Color is fantastic. I ordered . 5 size down and that was 100% the right move (and I was worried). Bought a pair of the suede chukkas too, happy with those."

Bryan L. (5/5)

Fantastic

"Fantastic boot. Sharp. Well fitting. High quality build."

Robert W. (5/5)

Great Boot!

"This boot looks even better in person—photos really don’t do it justice. I sized down half a size as suggested, and the fit is excellent and comfortable straight out of the box. Very little break-in needed. The boot feels surprisingly light and doesn’t feel clunky or bulky on foot. I’m a US 9 on the Brannock and ordered an 8. 5. Initially, I thought they might run a bit big, but after wearing them, the fit is just right."

Perspective from a Heritage Boot Newcomer With Extra-Wide (EEE) Feet

"Overall, I think these are great boots. Since most people reading reviews want to know the downsides first, I’ll start there — with the caveat that for me, these are all minor issues. First, they’re fairly heavy and not especially comfortable right out of the box. That’s to be expected with a substantial leather boot, and I anticipate both the weight and stiffness will fade into the background as they break in. Second, even though they’re partially gusseted, the tongues were bending inward on both boots. I had a local cobbler stitch each tongue to the lining on one side (so not visible from the outside) of each boot for $20, which completely solved the issue while still allowing the boots to be easy to pull on and off. I’m new to heritage boots, but I’ve noticed the Chromexcel is creasing more on one boot than the other. That may just reflect my gait. It doesn’t bother me much, though in a perfect world both boots would break in more symmetrically — whether that means pronounced creases or almost none at all. Finally, the uppers close almost completely at the top, as if my ankles and shins are a bit too slim for the last. That’s likely the tradeoff for needing an EEE width to accommodate my forefoot — I assume the whole boot scales up accordingly. It’s worth noting that off-the-shelf EEE heritage, service style boots in this price range are pretty limited. The Allen Edmonds Higgins Mill (when on sale) is probably the closest mainstream comparison that I’m aware of. For that reason alone, I appreciate Grant Stone offering a well-built, readily available, extra wide option. Overall, I’m very happy with them and expect they’ll only get better with wear."

Q&A

How much does this boot weigh?
Hi Keith, Thank you for reaching out. Depending on the size of the boot, generally our boots weigh between 2 and 4 pounds a pair. If you need further assistance, we are happy to help at info@grantstoneboot.com
I saw that someone on Youtube reviewed this boot, but it had a leather sole. Is it possible to order this shoe with a leather sole?
Unfortunately, we won't make the Dune Diesel boot on a leather outsole. We made a running change over to our Grant Stone micro stud outsole. Thanks for inquiring.
Which Venetian cream color should I use for the diesel boot dune?
We like to use Neutral Venetian cream as it won't darken the upper as brown would.
I normally wear a size 10.5. What size diesel dune boot should I get? Thanks in advance
In most cases we suggest to size down half a size from your average sneaker or dress shoe size!
