Our penny loafer was created with two things in mind: versatility and comfort. It's the ultimate shoe for travel, given the ability to be paired with a sport coat or t-shirt and almost anything in between. We find ourselves wearing this shoe year-round—sockless with shorts/lightweight fabrics in the summer and with wool socks and denim through the winter.

Combining a forgiving upper leather and soft insole/outsole tannage, the Traveler Penny strikes the perfect balance of structure and support.

  • Goodyear-welt construction
  • Alexander last
  • Repello calf suede from Charles F. Stead
  • Handsewn moc-toe stitching
  • Full-grain kip leather lining
  • 360º flat welt
  • Vegetable-tanned leather insole and welts
  • Cork filler with steel shank
  • Butyl leather outsole (oil dipped for flexibility)

Every pair crafted in our factory on Xiamen Island, China

The Alexander last runs a half-size large. Customers typically order a half-size down from their average shoe size.

Traveler Penny Espresso Suede

Made with

Goodyear-welt Construction

Renowned for its durability and ability to be resoled repeatedly, Goodyear-welt construction involves stitching a welt—a strip of leather—around the shoe's perimeter, creating a cavity. After filling the cavity with the shank and cork, the sole is attached, providing strength and water resistance. This construction method results in shoes that are not only long-lasting but also easily repairable, making them a timeless investment in quality craftsmanship.

Utilizing the

Alexander Last

Explicitly designed for loafers, the Alexander Last features the classic contours and higher sidewalls of a rounded casual-comfort loafer compared to its dressier counterparts. The Alexander Last offers a sleek profile while maintaining a generous toe box, allowing your forefoot generous amounts of room.

Trending in suede

"I bought these to wear sockless with shorts this summer. I just returned from a conference where I noticed so many of my friends were now wearing loafers. I will wear these with slacks as well. My next purchase will be a black pair."

Great shoe, width options essential

"a great shoe and one of the few options I had to get this style in a EEE variant"

Loafers made for people with wide feet

"I have tried multiple loafers over the years, but none fit properly. When the fit was snug, the toe box was too tight and uncomfortable. When the toe box felt right, I experienced significant heel slip. That changed with Grant Stone. I purchased two pairs, and both fit accurately with a secure heel and a comfortable toe box. They remain comfortable even after extended wear. Customer service was equally strong. Kim guided me through sizing, break-in expectations, and care. She also recommended appropriate products for both suede and calf leather, which helped preserve the shoes’ condition."

Best loafer out.

"Excellent quality. Highly recommend."

Vlatko B. (5/5)

Perfect

"Awesome loafers and feel very high quality. Surprisingly comfortable out of the box even for full days worn to the office with a lot of walking. Espresso suede color looks great and will be very versatile dressed up or down. Took the same size I did in the Chelsea boots and the fit is excellent. Looking forward to wearing a ton in the warmer weather."

Eric T. (5/5)

Platonic ideal of a suede loafer

"Really beautiful chocolate suede loafer great with a suit or jeans. I have an extra wide foot (EEE in Allen Edmonds) and purchased the E width. I was able to use a basic shoe stretcher to get plenty of room in the shoe."

Kenneth H. (5/5)

"Wonderful quality, classy design. The Espresso suede easily combines with almost any color outfit and can be dressed up or down. Very comfortable to wear—I particularly appreciate the ample space for my toes. My only critique is that I wish you could order these up front with sole protectors. I found the leather soles extremely slippery, even after several weeks of wear. I then struggled to find a cobbler where I live to get this fixed. Finally found someone and the soles are now much easier to walk in, but the quality of the job isn’t at the level of quality control that I think it would have been if installed up front by GS."

Joel A. (5/5)

Perfect for wide feet

"The GS Traveller is a high quality pair of shoes with the added benefit of extended size ranges. I suffer from wide feet and had a hard time finding other wide suede loafers. These fit the bill and look great."

Benjamin W. (5/5)

Great color and style, snug over the instep

"Really happy with these. The Espresso suede color is excellent and the style is exactly what I wanted, classic and clean without trying too hard. They look even better in person. My one knock, and the reason for four stars instead of five, is the fit across the top of the foot where the band sits. It runs tight there for me and has needed some breaking in to stretch out. It's getting better with wear, but the first stretch took some patience. Anyone with a higher instep should keep that in mind on sizing. Otherwise a well-made pair I expect to get a lot of years out of."
