The boots are very nice

"The boots are very nice looking. The tongue however is pretty bad. I’ve bought tongue pads and even wear extra cushion socks and the tongue on the left boot constantly slides down into the boot and to the left. I might be able to get a cobbler to stitch it to the opposite side to stop this. I’m not sure if the boot is too big, but going down another half size to a 10 seems like it would be way too tight. It’s too bad cause wearing them so far has been very frustrating. I typically wear a size 11 in athletic sneakers or dressier leather sneakers with no problem. Got a 10. 5 in Garrison boots. Would give a 5 if the flimsy tongue wasn’t an issue, but it actually messes up the way the boot fits."

Looks outstanding

"The boots look outstanding. I would give a perfect score but there are two issues. The 54 inch lace is way too short imo. Going through all 8 eyelets leaves almost nothing to tie a single knot. This is easily remedied by just buying longer laces. The far more frustrating problem is the tongue in each boot. I added tongue pads and that fixed the issue with the right boot. The tongue on the left constantly slides all the way to the left side of my foot though. When this happens my instep is now only contacting the lace and the boot does not fit well. It might be that my instep is too low volume, but another half size down and I’m pretty sure the boots would be much too tight. When tongue is in place the boot is actually very secure. I took them to a cobbler and he said he is going to stitch the tongue to the side opposite that it moves. If it fixes it I’d give a five star. The forest kudu leather is pretty unique and I’ve never seen anything like it. In the sun the green can look far more vivid. Really outstanding actually. Honestly, if not for the tongue I’d be ok paying considerably more for these boots."

Wild Green Goodness

"Beautiful, sexy, rugged, comfortable out of the box. The kudu leather is gorgeous, I wish it was even greener but that’s just personal preference. The QC is impeccable as usual. My fifth Grant Stone and counting, enough said."

Forest versus Burgundy kudu

"I thought I would post some photos of my green forest kudu versus my burgundy kudu, and cap toe versus plain toe. GS seems to change out the souls on these – two years ago my burgundy came with a rugged soul, now my burgundy came with a flat mock Danite sole. Both are good in their own ways. The rugged sole on the burgundy kudu picks up every rock and stone but has good traction, whereas the flat sole doesn’t pick up rocks, and has less traction. The cap toe on the forest green is not very visible, which could be good or bad depending on what you like. The forest green is more of a dark olive, I think; either way, it’s very nice. These kudu boots arrive very stiff. I could not bend the sole of my foot in them very well, so I took them off and used my entire weight to flex the ball of the foot back-and-forth to get a little flexibility before I wore them again. I also bent and flexed the leather as I watched TV. I could only wear them about half a day for the first couple weeks, or risk getting a blister foot fatigue. After that, they are super comfortable. That’s why I got a second pair in green because I love the burgundy so much. I took off a star primarily because of the laces and eyelets on the forest green pair. Unlike the burgundy boots, the eyelets are very small, I assume to be more dressy. The laces however, were so thin that they would cut into my hand as I tighten the boots and I had to go through quite a lot of pairs before I found some thicker, more comfortable laces that would fit through the tiny eyelits. The fatter, muli-colored ones on my burgundy pair are Delele brand. The thinner ones on the forest green are Ironlace brand 54”, 3. 2mm"

A Happy Accident

"So, first thing first, I was actually sent the wrong boots. I was sent the Forest Kudu Cap Toe boot. But I was coincidentally second guessing my order for Garrisons. As much as I wanted the Garrisons, I started falling more in love with the clean lines of the Cap Toe with the micro lug sole vs the full lug of the Garrisons. So I was actually pleasantly surprised when I opened the box and saw the beautiful Cap Toes! Now, onto the actual boots. They are gorgeous! The color is wonderful! Dark looking indoors, more colorful outside, but never looking like Crayola green. The kudu leather is excellent with minor 'scarring' but in an interesting way. The leather is very thick and supple, these will surely last a very long time. They are very comfortable right out of the box, but they are 2 inches taller than my last shoes, so it took a few days to get my ankles used to the thick collar. Overall, I am so happy with these boots! Now I'll have to grab the Garrisons when winter comes! For sizing, I usually wear a size 10. 5-11, but I was advised to get 9. 5E and it fits perfectly."

"Good quality of leather, the boots are visually stunning. I followed the recommended “half-size down” scaling when ordering, and was surprised when the width of the boot near the bridge of my foot pinched. Be cautious when following their sizing recommendations."

Boots you can dress up

"This is my 6th pair of Grant Stones. I found Kuddu leather the most interesting leather of all due to how soft it is and had no breaking time. The color forest green is super good, with black sole and welt I am wearing it to office with no issues."

Love them, happy with purchase

"This is my first time trying out Grant Stone boots, and I’ve been wearing the Garrison Boot in Forest Kudu for a few days now—I honestly love them. I’m still in the break-in phase, but they’ve given me zero issues so far. I’ve worn them a couple of times for over 13 hours straight with no discomfort at all. For reference, I usually wear a size 10. 5 in Red Wing, Jim Green, and Parkhurst. With these, I went with a 10E, and the fit is spot on. I prefer a roomier toe box with a snug heel, and these boots deliver exactly that. I love green boots, and these are no exception. I wish I could post pictures because the color really stands out—bright green in sunlight, but indoors they look like a deep forest green, almost black at times. The leather feels soft, light, and very pliable—not stiff or heavy. Overall, a really solid boot."

Excellent boots, minor error on the tongue

"Excellent shoe across the board. Would be 5 stars, but there is a problem with the right tongue in which it was stitched slightly at an angle causing it to pull to the left, even when off of my feet and sitting on the ground. I can have my cobler fix this for $25 by sewing it to the upper, otherwise great boot"
