Almost Like a Slipper!

"This was my first pair from GS and my first experience with Kudu. The quality of the boot is on par with bots costing $700 to $800. There welt was even all around and I could not find a stitch anywhere that wasn't even and precise, and believe me, I looked. The Forest Kudu is a rich green that shows nice, almost black, highlights in direct sunlight or in a bright room. And it is so incredibly soft. It seemed to envelop and mold to my foot within 30 minutes. My instep is moderate so I need to get a set of tongue pads so there is more space between the eye-stays when I lace them and I strongly suggest that you use shoe or boot trees because the leather is very soft and pliable. I wear these boots more often than I really should. If you're sitting on the fence with these, I hope this review pushes you off of it!"

"Love the fit and color. They're breaking in great and getting more comfortable with every wear. I've gotten a lot of compliments on their unique looks. Love them and I'm sure this won't be my last pair of Grant Stone shoes."

My first pair of Grant Stone's and won't be my last

""Do I really need a pair of green boots?" I asked myself before buying these. But I'm so glad I did. Well constructed, solid. The Kudu leather is intriguing with a lot of depth, the color is unique and the finishings make it stand out in the right way. Have had more comments on these in a few weeks than I've ever had on any other footwear. Comfort-wise, I'm definitely more of a fan of boots with cork insoles moreso than leather and still have yet to break the leather insoles in these in all the way, but I'm sure they'll be comfortable underfoot in no time."

The boots are very nice

"The boots are very nice looking. The tongue however is pretty bad. I’ve bought tongue pads and even wear extra cushion socks and the tongue on the left boot constantly slides down into the boot and to the left. I might be able to get a cobbler to stitch it to the opposite side to stop this. I’m not sure if the boot is too big, but going down another half size to a 10 seems like it would be way too tight. It’s too bad cause wearing them so far has been very frustrating. I typically wear a size 11 in athletic sneakers or dressier leather sneakers with no problem. Got a 10. 5 in Garrison boots. Would give a 5 if the flimsy tongue wasn’t an issue, but it actually messes up the way the boot fits."

Looks outstanding

"The boots look outstanding. I would give a perfect score but there are two issues. The 54 inch lace is way too short imo. Going through all 8 eyelets leaves almost nothing to tie a single knot. This is easily remedied by just buying longer laces. The far more frustrating problem is the tongue in each boot. I added tongue pads and that fixed the issue with the right boot. The tongue on the left constantly slides all the way to the left side of my foot though. When this happens my instep is now only contacting the lace and the boot does not fit well. It might be that my instep is too low volume, but another half size down and I’m pretty sure the boots would be much too tight. When tongue is in place the boot is actually very secure. I took them to a cobbler and he said he is going to stitch the tongue to the side opposite that it moves. If it fixes it I’d give a five star. The forest kudu leather is pretty unique and I’ve never seen anything like it. In the sun the green can look far more vivid. Really outstanding actually. Honestly, if not for the tongue I’d be ok paying considerably more for these boots."

Forest versus Burgundy kudu

"I thought I would post some photos of my green forest kudu versus my burgundy kudu, and cap toe versus plain toe. GS seems to change out the souls on these – two years ago my burgundy came with a rugged soul, now my burgundy came with a flat mock Danite sole. Both are good in their own ways. The rugged sole on the burgundy kudu picks up every rock and stone but has good traction, whereas the flat sole doesn’t pick up rocks, and has less traction. The cap toe on the forest green is not very visible, which could be good or bad depending on what you like. The forest green is more of a dark olive, I think; either way, it’s very nice. These kudu boots arrive very stiff. I could not bend the sole of my foot in them very well, so I took them off and used my entire weight to flex the ball of the foot back-and-forth to get a little flexibility before I wore them again. I also bent and flexed the leather as I watched TV. I could only wear them about half a day for the first couple weeks, or risk getting a blister foot fatigue. After that, they are super comfortable. That’s why I got a second pair in green because I love the burgundy so much. I took off a star primarily because of the laces and eyelets on the forest green pair. Unlike the burgundy boots, the eyelets are very small, I assume to be more dressy. The laces however, were so thin that they would cut into my hand as I tighten the boots and I had to go through quite a lot of pairs before I found some thicker, more comfortable laces that would fit through the tiny eyelits. The fatter, muli-colored ones on my burgundy pair are Delele brand. The thinner ones on the forest green are Ironlace brand 54”, 3. 2mm"
